Vision Statement

The Maine Association of Homeopaths honors, supports and welcomes all individuals who sincerely desire to contribute to the strength and quality of homeopathy.

Guiding Principles

These guiding principles are intended to encourage integrity and responsibility in the practice of homeopathy. They involve having regard for the reputation and advancement of homeopathy, the needs of the client and the development of understanding among homeopaths.

The purpose and goal of homeopathic treatment is to stimulate the rapid and gentle restoration of health including the disappearance of the whole pattern of illness.

A homeopath shall practice his/her profession with integrity and dignity. The homeopath shall practice with integrity and competence any skills other than homeopath as she/he may think appropriate. In the course of this treatment the homeopath will make clear to the client the nature of the treatment offered and that the treatment is not homeopathy. If a significant amount of homeopathy’s practice is not or becomes something other than homeopathy then the homeopath is responsible for informing the Association.

The practitioner’s highest standards need to be observed in conduct and in the care of the client.
It is for homeopaths to encourage their clients to take increasing responsibility for their own healing and learning.

Homeopaths are responsible for continuing their personal and professional development by undertaking further training and study, conferring with colleagues and acquiring knowledge of new theory and practice.
Homeopaths need to monitor their competence and be aware of the necessity to consult with colleagues or to refer a patient to a suitably experienced practitioner.

It is important that homeopaths support and assist each other in their study and practice.

Homeopaths shall report research findings and clinical experience methodically, honestly and without distortion. All speculative theories should be stated as such and clearly distinguished. In writing or speaking, if the homeopath is aware that he/she is directly using another’s ideas, the homeopath shall reference this accordingly.

Standard for Practice

  • Only the remedy that is homeopathic to the patient is to be used.
  • A client should not be encouraged to abandon or reduce allopathic treatment unless under the guidance of his/her allopathic physician
  • It is the intension of the homeopath to avoid suppression of symptoms and use the presenting physical, mental and emotional symptoms as guides to the simillimum. These are to be treated primarily by internal homeopathic treatment.
  • Remedies and methods of treatment are to be applied after careful consideration of the case.
  • Evaluation of the client is based on careful questioning and observation.
  • The purpose of the grievance committee is to maintain the integrity of the Maine Association of Homeopaths and to assist and nurture the homeopaths in their own growth and relations with clients and fellow homeopaths
